Over 100 Customers Shared Their Night Guard Stories. Here Are the Ones That Stayed With Us.

A few weeks ago, we asked our customers to share their night guard stories.

I thought we might get a few dozen replies.

We received over 100.

Some were short. Some were funny. Some were emotional. Some were very practical. Some customers just wrote a few sentences to say, “This helped me.”

But after reading through all of them, I noticed something.

Most people were not really writing about a piece of plastic.

They were writing about years of clenching.
Years of waking up with jaw pain.
Years of worrying about cracked teeth.
Years of trying drugstore guards, dentist guards, online guards, and still not finding one they could actually sleep with.

That part stayed with me.

Because from our side, we make night guards every day. We take impressions, make guards, adjust guards, answer questions, ship orders, and move on to the next case.

But from the customer’s side, this is often not routine at all.

For some people, it is the thing they put in before bed so they do not wake up with a sore jaw.
For some people, it is the thing protecting teeth they already spent thousands of dollars fixing.
For some people, it is the first guard they could actually keep in their mouth all night.
For some people, it is the end of a long search.

That is why these stories mattered to us.

Below are the winners of our Night Guard Story Contest, along with a few themes we kept seeing again and again.

Grand Prize Winner: Nancy M.

Nancy’s story stood out because it captured what so many customers told us.

She was in pain. She had already spent money on dental-office night guards. They did not work for her. She could not sleep with them. Then, almost as a last resort, she tried JS Dental Lab.

Here is Nancy’s story, lightly cleaned for readability but kept in her own words:

During Covid lockdown I was in excruciating pain from clenching my teeth. I had already had two night guards made through my dental office, both totaling over $700 out of my own pocket. Neither ever worked for me. A total waste of money that I didn’t have and time. Never once was I able to fall asleep with one of them on, let alone sleep through the night.

```
I went to my dental hygienist practically in tears. I was terrified because of COVID to go into the dentist and couldn’t bear the pain I was in. She told me about your company. She helped me in great detail with which style. I was desperate, so I listened. She herself used yours and helped other patients purchase your brand.
I ordered the kit, and when it came, it was pretty simple to do. Then the night guard arrived very soon after. I popped it in immediately and never looked back. It works like a charm. It has helped me ever since, and it was a fraction of the price.
Since I have switched many of my family members and friends to your product! Thank you for being the real deal and changing my sleep and taking away my pain! I would tell everyone out there that’s struggling that your product is worth every penny. It was life changing for me. Thank you!
```

What I liked about Nancy’s story is that it was not trying to sound perfect.

It was just honest.

She had tried other options. She was frustrated. She was hurting. Then she found something that worked for her, and she told other people about it.

That is the best kind of review we can receive.

Nancy, thank you for sharing your story. You are our Grand Prize Winner.

Five Runner-Ups

Matthew S. — When clenching affects more than teeth

Matthew’s story stood out because it showed how grinding and clenching can become more than a dental issue.

He wrote about years of grinding, clenching, and jaw pain. He had looked into options that would have cost thousands of dollars. He also wrote about how much he appreciated being able to work with real people through the process — people who were patient, informative, and kind.

“JS Dental Lab custom night guard has essentially solved the issues I was having with grinding, clenching, and jaw pain.”

What stood out to me was not only the result. It was the feeling behind the story.

A lot of people do not want something fancy. They just want something that works, from people who treat them like a person.

Matthew’s story reminded us of that.

June B. — The long search finally ended

June’s story had a very different voice. It was direct, funny, and memorable.

She wrote that she developed bruxism about 15 years ago and had tried guard after guard. One cost over $1,000. Another was expensive and only lasted a few months. Another broke down. She eventually discovered JS Dental Lab and said her first guard needed some tweaking, but we worked with her through it.

“What an amazing gift you are to me! My first guard needed some tweaking — and you were so understanding about that. AND IT HAS HELD UP FOR SEVERAL YEARS!!!”

I liked June’s story because it said something important about custom work.

Sometimes the first version needs adjustment.

That does not mean the process failed. That is part of making something custom. What matters is whether we stay with the customer and get it right.

June’s story also had something I love hearing: she bought a back-up guard “in case.”

That tells me the product became part of her life.

Jamie M. — Finally, one she could sleep with

Jamie’s story stood out because it focused on something very basic but very important:

Can you actually sleep with it?

A night guard can look good. It can be well-made. It can check every technical box. But if someone cannot tolerate it at night, it does not matter.

Jamie had tried other guards and struggled with comfort. She described anxiety, a small mouth, bulky guards, and the feeling that some guards made her want to take them out.

Then she found one she could actually wear.

A night guard does not help sitting in a drawer.

That is the real test. Not whether a night guard sounds good in theory. Whether someone can put it in, fall asleep, and wake up with it still there.

Michael V. — The long road to figuring out clenching

Michael’s story was one of the stronger “long search for answers” stories.

He wrote about pain, sensitivity, occasional numbness on the left side of his face, and headaches. He saw multiple doctors and specialists. He had tests done. Nobody had a clear answer.

Eventually, his dentist brought up clenching and suggested trying a mouth guard.

Michael wrote that after he ordered from us and started wearing the guard, he began noticing improvement. Over time, he connected the clenching to symptoms he had been dealing with.

A note from us: We are careful with stories like this. A night guard is not a medical cure-all. Jaw pain, headaches, and facial symptoms can have many causes, and everyone should work with their healthcare professionals.

But Michael’s story mattered because it reflected something we heard from many customers: sometimes people do not realize how much clenching is affecting them until they finally do something about it.

Michelle R. — Protecting teeth without the dentist-office price

Michelle’s story represented another very common theme: people who are trying to protect their teeth but cannot justify the cost of another expensive dental-office guard.

She wrote about cracked fillings, a broken tooth, and the worry that more damage could happen if she did not do something.

She also wrote about the cost of dentist-made guards and how difficult that can be.

This is one of the reasons JS Dental Lab exists.

People should not have to choose between doing nothing and spending hundreds of dollars on a guard they may or may not be able to sleep with.

Michelle’s story was not flashy. It was practical and real. She wanted to protect her teeth. She wanted something that fit. She wanted something she could afford.

That is exactly the customer we are trying to serve.

The Ripple Effect Story: Karen H.

There was one more story I wanted to recognize separately.

Not because it was the most dramatic.

Not because it was the most polished.

And not because I want to turn a night guard contest into something grander than it is.

It is still a night guard contest.

But Karen’s story stayed with me because it showed how one small experience can travel farther than expected.

A night guard starts with one person.

One person is trying to sleep better.
One person is trying to protect their teeth.
One person is trying to stop waking up sore.
One person decides to try something.

But sometimes the experience does not stop there.

It gets passed along to a spouse.
A daughter.
A friend.
A patient.
A family member.
Someone else who is looking for a solution.

That is the part I liked about Karen’s story.

Not that it was “bigger” or more noble than everyone else’s. It was that it reminded me how connected people are. One good experience can move through a family, a friendship, a workplace, or a community in ways we do not always see.

We are not claiming a night guard changes the world.

But if it helps one person sleep better, protect their teeth, or feel less worried, that experience sometimes travels.

Karen, thank you. Your story stayed with me.

What We Kept Seeing in the Stories

The winners were only part of the picture.

When we looked at all the submissions, certain themes kept showing up.

These themes probably explain JS Dental Lab better than any product page could.

1. Many customers tried the dentist guard first.

This came up again and again.

Some customers had spent $500, $700, or even over $1,000 on dentist-made guards.

Some worked for a while. Some did not fit. Some were too bulky. Some were uncomfortable. Some sat unused because the customer could not sleep with them.

That is a hard thing to read.

Because people are not usually spending that kind of money casually. They are doing it because they are worried about their teeth or tired of pain.

When that does not work, they feel stuck.

We are not against dentist-made guards. A good dentist can be very helpful, especially for complicated cases. But the stories showed us that cost and comfort are real barriers.

A night guard has to be made well.

But it also has to be something people can actually afford and wear.

2. Drugstore guards helped some people start, but not finish.

A lot of customers tried drugstore guards first.

That makes sense. They are easy to buy and inexpensive.

But many customers told us the same problems:

Too bulky.
Too loose.
Too soft.
Too hard to sleep with.
Too easy to chew through.
Not really made for their mouth.

For some people, an over-the-counter guard may be enough for a while.

But for many of our customers, it was not the final answer.

They needed something custom.

Something that fit their teeth.
Something they could sleep with.
Something that did not feel like a temporary compromise.

3. People are afraid of damaging their teeth.

This was one of the biggest themes.

Customers wrote about cracked teeth, worn teeth, crowns, fillings, implants, gum concerns, and the fear of needing more dental work.

That fear is real.

It is one thing to know you grind or clench during the day.

It is another thing to realize you may be damaging your teeth while you are asleep and cannot stop yourself.

For many customers, the night guard gave them peace of mind.

Not because it made every worry disappear.

But because they felt like they were finally doing something to protect themselves.

That matters.

Sometimes peace of mind is part of the product.

4. Comfort is not a luxury. It is the whole point.

This is something we think about a lot.

A night guard can be strong, beautiful, and technically correct. But if the customer cannot sleep with it, it fails.

That is why comfort matters so much.

Several customers told us they had guards they “should” have worn, but could not. They took them out at night. They gagged. They felt pressure. They gave up.

Then they found a guard they could actually wear.

That sentence — “I can sleep with it” — may sound simple.

But in this business, it is one of the highest compliments.

Because a night guard does not help sitting in a drawer.

It only helps if it becomes part of someone’s real nighttime routine.

5. Service is part of the product.

A custom night guard is not like buying a standard item off a shelf.

The customer has to take an impression.
The guard has to be made from that impression.
Sometimes the first impression is not perfect.
Sometimes the bite needs to be reviewed.
Sometimes the guard needs adjustment.
Sometimes the customer is not sure which guard to choose.

That means service is not separate from the product.

It is part of the product.

Some of the stories that meant the most to me were not just “the guard was perfect.”

They were stories where the customer had trouble, and our team stayed with them.

We sent another impression kit.
We helped troubleshoot.
We made adjustments.
We answered questions.
We tried to get it right.

That is what custom work requires.

Not perfection on the first try every time.

Responsibility.

6. A night guard is small, but the problem is not.

This is probably the biggest thing I took away from reading the submissions.

From the outside, a night guard seems like a small product.

But the problem behind it is not always small.

It can affect sleep.
It can affect mornings.
It can affect dental bills.
It can affect someone’s confidence in their teeth.
It can affect how safe they feel going to sleep at night.

That does not mean a night guard solves everything.

It does not.

But when it solves the right problem for the right person, it can make a very real difference.

That is what these stories showed us.

Thank You for Sharing Your Stories

To everyone who submitted a story: thank you.

We read them.

We talked about them.

We learned from them.

Some of them made us smile. Some made us pause. Some reminded us where we need to keep improving.

Most of all, they reminded us that behind every order is a real person.

Someone with a history.
Someone with worries.
Someone trying to sleep better.
Someone trying to protect their teeth.
Someone who trusted us enough to try.

That trust means a lot.

And we do not take it lightly.
